You see, Eavesdropper is sure that the people of Osun must be doing all kinds of calculations now. Right now, some of them must be trying to solve a system of equations when one is linear and the other is quadratic. Your tataafo doesn’t envy them at all. Some of them must feel that they are between the devil and the deep blue sea.
The D-Day is finally here and the people of Osun have the opportunity to choose the pilot to fly their plane of Osun Air for the next four years. Their choice today may determine if the plane will mostly encounter smooth flight for the crew and passengers or if their journey will be mostly turbulent; that is, with period of shaking, jostling and stomach-churning rises and falls. So the question is: will the next pilot be able to expertly fly the plane of Osun Air through pockets of rising, falling and rolling air or make a mess of it all and probably crash the plane? They need to make a wise decision.
We all know that there are many parties involved but from experience, the duel is likely to be between only two of them that have the kind of baggage that could crash any plane – the All Promises Cancelled and the People Deceive People.
And as for their candidates, on the one hand, there is a dancer who has told the people to prepare to see him “dance to the Government House after winning” the election.
“When I was in the university overseas, I used to go for dancing competitions. Although, I am a Nigerian, I still won dancing competitions which is the reason why I was nicknamed ‘Jackson,’ but my real name is Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke,” he had added.
But sadly Mr. Jackson, this is not a dancing competition so I really don’t know why you’re in this contest. It’s no wonder that he failed to show up at three different debates organised for candidates applying to fly the Osun plane. The organisers goofed big time; if they had called it a dancing contest in the invitation sent to him, Eavesdropper would have bet all his naira and kobo on it that he would have been there with his ‘Jackson shoes’.
Anyway, on the other hand, there is a man who the Osun people believe has a relationship that goes beyond just friendship with a Lagos don, and they don’t like that any bit. Some believe that voting for him will be like voting to say ‘we as a people want to continue to be an annexation of Lagos and the property or slaves of some people.’ If I were in Osun, I would not want to be somebody’s property too. Do you see the problem?
Well, they have to decide fast, but that decision must not be made on basis of ‘who is offering more money that can get me a bigger pot of soup?’ Abi, let’s not forget in a hurry how votes were openly bought in exchange for ‘soup money’ in Edo, Ondo and Ekiti State.
Well, Eavesdropper hopes that the people of Osun will make the best decision for themselves, but his wish is that a more credible candidate would be found outside of the two biggest parties that have put us all in this current mess. Shalom!
Nigeria Air
Like Osun Air, we thought Nigeria Air would be brought back, but we all know about the announcement by our government that it had suspended the Nigeria Air project. However, what we did not hear the employees of the people (those in Federal Executive Council) announce was the reason for making that decision.
Methinks that when someone you employ to manage your affairs and account spends your money on a project and then talks about suspending the project, then that someone ought to also let you know why.
Abi, if we don’t know anything, we know that the logo for Nigeria Air was designed in Bahrain and Eavesdropper is sure the company involved did not collect sand from Lagos beaches to do the job. Some money was spent. Some people have even accused the government of spending $600,000 on the logo when there are so many Nigerian companies that would have done a better job at cheaper cost, but your tataafo does not want to believe that even a shameless government like ours would do something as stupid as that. So, for now, I will dismiss that amount with a wave of the hand.
But the point the Eavesdropper is making is that some money was spent and proper accountability should have been done by a government that claims to be fighting corruption.
Anyway, Eavesdropper has listened to many comments on the matter and some Nigerians have even likened the Nigeria Air project to MMM ponzi scheme. Well, your tataafo is not sure we can compare the two. But interestingly, from arguments, some people have said that though Nigerians lost so much money to MMM, it is still better because it worked for some time after all, while Nigeria Air never took off.
